Thanking Veterans by Performing Critical Home Repairs

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newark and Wells Fargo joined forces in November 2017 to make major improvements to home of veteran Anthony as part of national efforts to improve 100 homes alongside their veteran homeowners. Years of Northern New Jersey weather had taken a toll on Anthony’s home in Roselle. The exterior badly needed a new coat of paint. His driveway had developed cracks, which he knew would eventually turn into potholes. Painting his whole house and dealing with the driveway at the same time would have been a major expense. Anthony was relieved to find out about Habitat of Greater Newark’s Veterans Initiative.

Habitat staff, together with volunteers from Wells Fargo, completed exterior painting of the house, patched the driveway cracks, and installed a driveway seal coat. We also installed 5 smoke alarms in his home as part of the American Red Cross Home Fire Safety Program. Anthony’s Critical Repair and Healthy Homes Initiative project was one of three veteran home repair projects funded by Wells Fargo.

Habitat of Greater Newark contractors, together with volunteers from Wells Fargo, painted the exterior of veteran Partner Family member Anthony’s house and also repaired the home’s driveway.

Do you know a veteran family in need of assistance with home repairs? See the Veterans Initiative page on our website for more information about Habitat of Greater Newark’s programs for veterans.

Our work with veteran families like Anthony’s depends on you. Your donations and volunteering allow us to work with veteran families to bring them to homeownership–and to perform critical repairs to keep them in the homes they already own.
