Needed Home Repairs for an Aging Veteran Family
Local veteran Henry trained as a Private First Class in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1957. After his discharge, he found a job working for an automotive company. He and his wife Thelma raised six children. Henry retired in 1999 and Thelma retired in 2003.
Now in their eighties, they live in Orange, NJ, on a fixed income. As the years went by, maintaining their home became more difficult. Henry decided to reach out to Habitat of Greater Newark for help with his home’s repair issues. To the family’s relief, they qualified for our Veterans Initiative.
LEFT (Before): Water damage from roof leaks had damaged the home’s plaster walls, exposing lead paint. RIGHT (After): Habitat of Greater Newark contractors replaced the cracked plaster with new sheetrock and painted it with low-VOC latex paint.
Habitat of Greater Newark contractors fixed Henry’s roof and renovated the areas of his home’s interior where water damage from roof leaks had created problems.
